POLAROID SCULPTURES
These sculptures were created using prints I made on Chuck Close’s own 20 x 24 Polaroid box camera during a residency at his photo studio. Not being interested in portraiture, still life or even photography as a medium, I decided to interfere with the photographic process by inserting cut paper inside the camera and crinkling the paper before it developed. I used the camera to photograph prints of images that inspired my work: cells, jellyfish, and other forms from nature. After the photographs were done, I took them to my studio where I made sculptures using different kinds of paper, and even the bag the Polaroid film comes in.
