VOLUTA has arrived! ORDER BELOW! One of Flavorwire's 100 Gifts for 100 Cultural Icons VOLUTA is a limited edition laser cut sculpture made of translucent high impact polystyrene. Fun and easy to construct, VOLUTA offers art lovers of all ages the opportunity to create and own a complex, luminous “paper” sculpture. In just minutes you can transform a flat piece of laser cut material into a swirling, three-dimensional vortex. VOLUTA is meant to hang in a window or near a light source, but can also sit on a pedestal or horizontal surface. Several feet of monofilament is included for hanging. Each VOLUTA is individually signed and numbered by the artist. Enjoy! Watch a video about the making of VOLUTA at left
VOLUTA is also available through the Store at the Museum of Arts and Design in NY. VOLUTA is featured in the front window of the Store, facing Columbus Circle (below).
VOLUTA was created in conjunction with the exhibition Slash: Paper Under the Knife at the Museum of Arts and Design in NY, curated by David Revere McFadden. The exhibition runs from October 7, 2009 - April 4, 2010. For this exhibition, I have created a new cut paper installation on the 5th floor called INRUSH that utilizes the natural light entering through the window cut on the west side of the building to blur distinctions between interior and exterior space. A large, swirling mobile entitled "VOLUTION," made of 16 VOLUTA, was displayed in the lobby of the museum. Price available upon request.
The prototype of VOLUTA was developed in conjunction with Proyecto'Ace, a residency in Buenos Aires, AR, and Rodrigo de Salvo of DIP Agency in BA. My stay there was funded by the Pollock Krasner Foundation. Special thanks to the Caroline Kim of Rockwell Group. |
